Requirements

  • Proficiency in diagnosing vision defects (e.g., injury, disease, abnormality), prescribing/fitting/adjusting eyeglasses, contact lenses, and vision aids
  • Experience with ordering, interpreting, and assessing diagnostic tests (e.g., glaucoma testing, macular degeneration, OCT)
  • Ability to perform additional treatments (e.g., foreign body removal) and develop evidence-based treatment plans
  • Skills in consulting with health professionals, providing referrals (e.g., to ophthalmologists), and following up on diagnostics/tests
  • Adherence to state, local, federal healthcare regulations, and Walmart vision center guidelines
  • Experience maintaining patient information in systems (e.g., BOSS) accurately and confidentially
  • Ability to perform administrative/retail tasks (e.g., financial transactions, patient registration, retail transactions)
  • Leadership skills in analyzing business objectives, developing strategies, managing costs/forecasts, evaluating processes, and promoting customer environment
  • Capability to recruit, develop talent, support mentorship/succession planning
  • Knowledge of integrating integrity/ethics standards, Open Door Policy, and building partnerships/networks

Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based vision care to ensure patient health and wellbeing, including prescribing medications/treatments and using care guidelines
  • Deliver routine vision care and educate patients/store associates on eye health, contact lens care, disease management, and safety
  • Recommend patient follow-up, consult with health professionals, coordinate care plans, provide referrals, and follow up on diagnostics/tests
  • Evaluate patient health via comprehensive eye exams, reviewing medical history, and using instruments/pharmaceuticals to assess visual acuity, perception, focus, coordination, and defects
  • Prescribe, fit, adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses, vision aids; order/interpret diagnostic tests; provide treatments like foreign body removal
  • Develop treatment plans based on clinical presentation and evidence-based guidelines
  • Represent company in vision care through exceptional customer service in all patient interactions
  • Maintain/update patient information in vision center systems timely, accurately, confidentially
  • Assist vision center staff (e.g., opticians) on best practices/procedures
  • Ensure adherence to healthcare regulations and Walmart guidelines
  • Perform administrative/retail tasks (e.g., financial transactions, registration, retail) and collaborate with internal/external stakeholders for coordinated patient care
  • Provide overall direction by analyzing objectives/needs, developing/implementing strategies/plans, managing resources, evaluating processes/outcomes, and identifying improvements
  • Develop strategies to attract/maintain skilled workforce, including recruiting, talent development, mentorship, succession planning
  • Cultivate environment of integrity/ethics adherence, integrate values into practices, support Open Door Policy
