Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program (for Engineer - Grade 5/entry level)
  • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination encouraged and preferred (for Engineer - Grade 5)
  • Acceptable alternative: Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's or PhD in engineering from a university
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge in engineering theory and analytical techniques to solve diverse problems
  • Competency in analytical techniques for assignments of moderate complexity
  • Ability to understand interrelationships between systems and component equipment
  • Proficiency in relevant engineering tools and techniques (e.g., CPM, PERT, flow charts for scheduling)
  • Understanding of AEP's organizational structure, budgeting/approval processes, economic analysis, utility regulation, and financing
  • Ability to relocate to New Albany, OH, for full-time onsite work 5 days a week

Responsibilities

  • Perform intermediate level engineering work activities and projects in transmission planning safely, effectively, efficiently, and economically
  • Apply theory and analytical techniques to solve diverse problems and complete extensive analysis
  • Coordinate work activities of others within the work group, department, or corporate entity to complete routine activities
  • Perform routine engineering activities with minimum direction from higher-level employees
  • Follow company policies, practices, standards, rules, and external regulations/procedures
  • Provide training and guidance to lower-level employees
  • Coordinate development of input for forecasting costs on routine projects and improvements
  • Use scheduling techniques (e.g., CPM, PERT, flow charts) for budget and planning activities
  • Initiate corrective action when project objectives are not met
  • Resolve and initiate solutions to routine problems, identifying issues beyond normal routine
  • Analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes
  • Develop, review, or present technical reports, studies, and analyses clearly and concisely
  • Act as an active team member, network with peers, identify stakeholders, resolve conflicts, and build consensus
  • Make decisions subject to review within policies/procedures that affect team work, assessing risks and extrapolating to logical conclusions
  • Demonstrate business awareness through understanding of organizational roles and economic problem-solving techniques
