Candidates should have a background in show production, experience with sound design, and a desire to tell complex and layered stories in the audio form. This is a union-represented role covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA, and an NPR editorial role covered under the terms of the NPR Ethics Handbook. Editorial staff are defined as staff members who play a role in shaping the journalistic or creative direction of NPR's content, including events.
The Producer III will help brainstorm season, episode, and feed visions, offer editorial guidance to shape/edit stories, sometimes lead producing a series and oversee the production timeline, mentor and train ESU producers, participate in editorial planning of assigned series, direct hosts during recordings, contribute to day-to-day production, write scripts under deadline, craft engaging copy for podcast and web, help score and sound design assigned series, and work closely with hosts, editors, producers, interns, freelancers, and Member Station/newsroom partners.
