The Technical Interview Coach will be instrumental in advancing CodePath’s mission by assisting students and alumni in their preparation for technical interviews, with a primary focus on software engineering, through the Career Center. The Career Center offers accessible career support via 1:1 mock interviews, workshops, and skill-building sessions designed to equip students with the technical skills and confidence necessary to secure technical roles and navigate their career paths.

This part-time role (up to 20 hours/week) requires significant software engineering and technical interviewing experience, exceptional communication skills, and a genuine passion for supporting students—particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds—in their success within the technical hiring process.

Responsibilities

• Conduct 1:1 mock technical interviews for students currently enrolled in CodePath’s courses and alumni preparing for technical interviews.
• Co-present and lead technical interview preparation workshops and skill-building sessions.
• Improve and iterate on technical interview preparation resources within the Career Kit.
• Develop tailored content for technical interview preparation and deliver it virtually as part of the Career Labs series.

Expectations

• Continuously improve career coaching resources and student experiences by sharing knowledge and maintaining adaptability.
• Communicate promptly via Slack and email, providing timely updates on availability and progress.
• Maintain clarity and consistency in managing your calendar, time, and tasks.

Requirements & Skills

• Experience: 4+ years of experience as a software engineer (or closely related role) with involvement in the hiring process.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable facilitating group workshops and 1:1 coaching sessions via Zoom.
• Technical Interviewing: Experience leading and providing feedback for various technical interviews, especially those involving data structures and algorithms.
• Programming Proficiency: Proficiency in at least one common programming language used in interviews (e.g., Python, Java, C++, JavaScript).
• Coaching Skills: Ability to facilitate mock interviews, present coding challenges, review code, and provide constructive feedback.
• Time Management: Strong time management skills.
• Mentorship: Enthusiasm for mentoring and helping students build confidence in technical interviews.
• Adaptability: Willingness to leverage and contribute to CodePath’s Technical Interview Prep curriculum.
• Data-Driven: Data-driven mindset with an eagerness to use metrics for process improvement.
• Flexibility: Flexibility and a willingness to experiment and learn.
• Mission Alignment: Passion for CodePath’s mission to create the most diverse generation of engineers, CTOs, and founders.

Ideal Candidate Attributes

• Experience with general career coaching or 1:1 mentoring for early-career software developers, particularly those from communities underrepresented in tech.
• Specific domain experience in one of the following areas: cybersecurity, data science, machine learning, or engineering leadership.
• Familiarity with a range of technical interview formats, including coding assessments, whiteboard interviews, and system design.
• Experience creating job search resources or documentation.
• Prior remote work experience.
