Requirements

  • No need for GM immigration sponsorship (e.g., H-1B, TN, STEM OPT) now or in the future
  • Ability to work hybrid on NIGHT SHIFT, reporting to GM Philippines office three times per week or as dictated by business
  • Expertise in indirect tax and compliance principles across in-scope countries
  • Knowledge of US GAAP for tax closing and reporting
  • Proficiency in accounting processes, journal entries, and account reconciliations
  • Experience with high-risk process review, approval, and escalations
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, GM accounting policies, and external regulatory requirements
  • Ability to lead and facilitate internal and external audits, including post-audit control implementation
  • Skills in data interpretation, issue resolution, and reporting improvements
  • Capability to own complex processes with regional scope and cross-functional seams
  • Up-to-date knowledge of indirect taxes and business/country developments
  • Adept at managing and engaging a large, diverse group of professionals, including employee goal setting, CAP, and development
  • Expertise in Accounting Standards and regulatory compliance
  • Superior stakeholder management, relationship building, and customer service focus, including SLA/KPI dashboards

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Tax Compliance Organization in GBS-Manila, managing tax accounting (journal entries, reconciliations) and tax return filing
  • Lead indirect tax and compliance function to optimize minimal scrutiny and audit assessments
  • Timely review and submission of tax returns (VAT/GST, Corporate Income Tax, Property Tax, annual reports)
  • Manage monthly/quarterly/annual tax closing and reporting per US GAAP, including journal entries and reconciliations
  • Review and approve journal entries and account reconciliations as high-risk processes reviewer, approver, and 1st level escalations
  • Maintain complete and current Tax department policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with GM policies, internal controls, and regulations
  • Support internal and external audits
  • Apply accounting process knowledge, interpret data, resolve issues, and identify reporting improvements
  • Own complex processes, manage touchpoints, resolve tradeoffs for effectiveness and efficiency
  • Maintain knowledge of indirect taxes and developments affecting the business/country
  • Develop case for change, communicate progress, and lead transitions for processes, organization, systems, and tools
  • Escalate suspected accounting or control issues immediately and find solutions
  • Manage and engage diverse professionals, create growth opportunities, set employee goals/CAP linked to GM GBS objectives, provide guidance on Accounting Standards and compliance
  • Strengthen relationships with Controllership stakeholders, act as liaison, focus on customer service, develop/monitor SLA/KPI dashboards, engage in performance dialogues
  • Maintain relationships with GBS/GM Controllership teams, monitor progress, drive performance
  • Lead continuous improvements, redefine processes, raise service levels
  • Drive automation and digitization in professional services environment
