Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience as a Db2 and/or IMS Systems Programmer (or equivalent with additional experience if no degree)
  • Bachelor of Engineering/Arts/Science or equivalent degree in computer science or related area (or 3 additional years of relevant experience without degree)
  • Provides global support for Db2 and/or IMS (Transaction and Database) products and Level 3/4 support for software delivery teams
  • Ability to implement technical solutions in accordance with agreed technical design
  • Experience troubleshooting, researching, and resolving complex IMS issues
  • Owns and produces documentation; ability to translate technical details into concise written form
  • Ability to support systems in a 24x7 on-call rotation
  • Knowledge of Db2 and/or IMS commands to start/stop, alter buffer pools, perform recovery, list threads, manipulate connections with subsystems (e.g., CICS, other IMS)
  • Experience with Db2 and/or IMS system installs, upgrades, de-installs, and maintenance application
  • Knowledge of Db2 and/or IMS security
  • Working knowledge of Db2 and/or IMS system internals and configuration
  • Working knowledge of IBM Db2 SQL Performance Analyzer and IBM Query Monitor for performance inspection and tuning
  • Experience with Disaster Recovery (backups/restores, DR plan creation/maintenance, preparing/recovering Db2/IMS at alternate sites)
  • Vendor interaction experience, including searching knowledge databases and using IBMLINK
  • Preferred Qualifications (Requirements)
  • Highly skilled with z/OS tools: TSO/ISPF, JCL, VSAM Utilities, SDSF, SYSLOG, IEBCOPY, DFSMS (e.g., coding JCL, using TSO/ISPF for PDS libraries, submitting/examining JCL)
  • Db2/IMS knowledge with utilities (recover, backup, diagnostic, etc.)
  • Experience defining, deleting, managing VSAM datasets
  • Proficient with SMP/E (commands, terminology, problem determination, applying maintenance, installs)
  • Experienced with REXX and CLIST programming

Responsibilities

  • Work with database vendors, infrastructure groups, DBAs, and application teams to deploy, manage, and support mainframe databases (Db2 and IMS) worldwide
  • Proactively install database software (Db2 and IMS)
  • Monitor, manage, control, and upgrade (configuration, patching, refresh) databases consistently across GM’s mainframe landscape
  • Perform performance optimization and capacity management
  • Handle master scheduling, resolve production control issues and DBMS problems
  • Implement global monitoring and automation solutions for best-in-class availability
  • Provide technical support and input on technology application to business segments
  • Ensure project learnings are documented and shared
