Candidates must have an advanced level of experience with MariaDB or MySQL database administration, including complex replication topologies at scale, and advanced proficiency in SQL and query/schema optimization. They should have experience debugging query performance and schema design, working with high traffic and highly available website architectures, and managing MySQL high availability and replication tooling. Knowledge of Linux and IO/data storage concepts is required, along with 6+ years of hands-on DBA experience in a team environment. A B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience, is necessary, along with solid English language skills and the ability to travel 1-2 times a year. Proficiency in automation/programming/scripting (Python) and experience with SRE practices and tooling are strongly preferred, as are contributions to open source projects.
The Staff Database Administrator will ensure the health and performance of production relational database systems and data integrity, deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting database systems across environments. They will design, implement, and automate replication topologies, consult on database schema and query design, and oversee schema changes. Responsibilities include monitoring, debugging, and optimizing query performance, improving database infrastructure observability, and planning capacity and infrastructure. The role involves enabling reliable database backups and restorations, maintaining relationships with MariaDB upstream projects, and participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation for incident response and system outage diagnosis.
