Requirements

Candidates must have over 7 years of experience contributing high-quality code to production systems operating at scale. Experience is required in building n-tier, highly scalable, fault-tolerant, reactive Microservices using Java/Scala and RESTful architecture. Proficiency in machine learning, Chat GPT or similar platforms, scikit-learn, and TensorFlow/Pytorch is necessary. A good understanding of Java, Spring Boot, and experience with distributed systems and teams is also required. Familiarity with Kubernetes, Helm, microservice architecture and design, and best practices around multithreading, networking, offline storage, and performance tuning is expected. Experience with refactoring/redesigning/rewriting existing applications and a disciplined approach to development, code review, testing, and documentation are considered a plus.

Responsibilities

The Staff Software Engineer will lead the development of advanced search functionalities, ensuring robust and efficient performance for Walmart's eCommerce Search domain. This role involves mentoring junior engineers, driving technical innovation, and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver impactful search solutions. Responsibilities include leading engineering projects, providing documentation and direction, reviewing and approving solutions, implementing new architectural patterns, and performing design and code reviews. The engineer will troubleshoot business and production issues, conduct root cause analysis, and complete online documentation. They will also lead the discovery phase of projects, create high-level designs, partner with product management and other teams, drive proof-of-concept initiatives, and implement prototypes. Additionally, the role involves developing innovation strategies, processes, and best practices, assessing opportunities, documenting project scopes, developing long-range plans, communicating with executives, and resolving technology differences. The engineer will drive the execution of business plans and projects by identifying needs, communicating plans and priorities, removing barriers, providing resources, setting performance standards, measuring progress, and developing contingency plans.
