Requirements

  • Experience developing tools, scripts, and automation for observability pipelines in edge computing (e.g., handling bandwidth limitations and intermittent connectivity)
  • Familiarity with industry-standard observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, OpenTelemetry)
  • Capability to optimize observability data storage, retention, and querying for performance, cost, and scalability
  • Leadership skills to mentor junior SREs and engineers on observability best practices
  • Strong collaboration and partnership abilities with cross-functional teams (solution, engineering, business)
  • Knowledge of emerging observability trends, tools, and methodologies for edge computing and distributed systems

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement comprehensive observability solutions for edge computing environments, providing visibility into system performance across distributed remote facilities
  • Define and maintain SLIs, SLOs, and business KPIs to measure and enhance system reliability
  • Build and optimize dashboards, visualizations, and alerting systems for real-time insights and rapid incident response
  • Implement distributed tracing and log aggregation systems to troubleshoot issues in edge environments
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure applications and infrastructure incorporate observability best practices
  • Drive proactive issue identification in edge facilities using advanced observability tools to reduce MTTD and MTTR
  • Lead incident postmortems, analyzing root causes and implementing observability-driven improvements
  • Develop and maintain tools, scripts, and automation to enhance observability pipelines for edge challenges
  • Evaluate and integrate observability tools and recommend solutions for edge use cases
  • Optimize observability data storage, retention, and querying across remote facilities
  • Mentor and guide junior SREs and engineers on observability best practices for edge computing
  • Partner with teams to align observability with business objectives and lead cross-functional initiatives for improvement
  • Stay current with observability trends and advocate for their adoption in edge and distributed systems
