Requirements

  • Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Chemistry with over 10 years of experience in organic synthesis/polymer chemistry, or MS or equivalent experience in Chemistry with more than 15 years in synthesis/polymer chemistry
  • Experience in polymer manufacturing preferred
  • Strong knowledge of organic chemistry, polymer synthesis, and surface modification
  • Proficiency in statistical data analysis (Minitab, JMP)
  • Proficiency in operating Chemistry lab equipment like HPLC, LC/MS, NMR, MS, GC, GC-MS, UV-Vis, FTIR, and fluorescence spectrophotometers
  • Proven track record to work in a team, share data, and collaborate to resolve issues
  • Familiarity with cGMP and ISO 13485 requirements, including CAPA and Risk Assessments
  • Experience with Lean/Process Excellence/Six Sigma methodologies
  • Strong project management skills
  • Understanding of process validation
  • Adaptability to a dynamic environment while maintaining a focus on quality
  • Good understanding of continual process improvement practices like Kaizens, Gemba, 3P, 5S, Standard Work and others
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and great attention to details
  • Ability to produce and present original technical communication materials for internal and external audiences
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and innovative thinking to resolve problems
  • Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance
  • Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards
  • Ability to work in environmental conditions including Cold Room/Freezers (-22°F/-6°C), Laboratory Setting, Loud Noises (Equipment/Machinery), Office, Some degree of PPE required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.), Strong Odors (chemical, lubricants, biological products etc.), and hazardous/toxic materials

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction for critical projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for chemistry-related projects and issues concerning PPA products
  • Lead multiple global and U.S.-based projects, maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality
  • Ensure successful execution of raw material second-sourcing and process validation projects
  • Coordinate project schedules and team activities to improve efficiency
  • Apply chemical principles to identify and resolve manufacturing challenges at their root cause
  • Demonstrate active and visible leadership, both within the MSAT area and in coordination with supporting departments
  • Set and maintain a working standard consistent with site leadership
  • Analyze raw materials, products, compounds for properties, structure, reactions using chromatography, spectroscopy
  • Lead the team in instructing on the operation of various general laboratory instruments, including HPLC, LC/MS, NMR, MS, GC, GC-MS, UV-Vis, FTIR, and fluorescence spectrophotometers
  • Perform complex organic synthesis, including polymer and surface chemistry
  • Lead the implementation of process improvements through data-driven decision-making
  • Collaborate with manufacturing on various chromatography resin production goals: including efficiency, quality control, specification targets
  • Communicate clearly and effectively at multiple levels, including with Executive Management
  • Demonstrate the ability to prepare project proposals and acquire approvals from senior management
  • Partner with cross-functional team members to drive and implement critical projects and cross-site initiatives (including R&D, product management, procurement, QA, etc.)
