Requirements

Candidates should have experience operating monolithic databases and building platforms, automation, and guardrails for database management in the cloud. A strong understanding of AWS services like RDS, Aurora, and DynamoDB, along with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, Helm, and Gitlab CI/CD, is required. Experience with observability solutions like Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or OpenSearch, and familiarity with database technologies such as Postgres, MySQL, and BigQuery are also necessary. The role requires technical leadership experience and the ability to 'speak DBA' regarding tuning and schema design.

Responsibilities

The Staff Database Platform Engineer will lead the evolution of database management in the cloud, empowering product teams with self-service capabilities for provisioning, running, and monitoring their own databases. This includes designing and building automation frameworks, developing Infrastructure-as-Code modules, and establishing best practices for service-level databases. The engineer will also evaluate and guide architectural decisions for large-scale analytical and ETL workloads, implement observability solutions, ensure the availability, performance, and security of existing monolithic databases, and lead efforts to reduce risk and complexity in these systems while guiding workload transitions to decentralized models.
