Candidates must hold a Ph.D., M.S., or Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Machine Learning, Economics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field; if possessing an M.S. or Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of six years of industry data science experience is required; if holding a Ph.D., a minimum of four years of industry data science experience is necessary. Expertise in SQL and relational databases, along with familiarity with statistical analysis and preferred programming languages such as R or Python, are also required. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to influence and guide product strategy through data-driven insights and the capacity to solve ambiguous problems in a structured, hypothesis-driven manner.
As a Staff Data Scientist, responsibilities include helping build the long-term product strategy by identifying opportunities to attract new users, increase engagement, and drive retention; influencing strategic roadmaps through data-driven insights into user behaviors and needs; designing metrics to evaluate the health of the business and the success of products, including any necessary ETL development; driving experimentation from design to execution and analysis to maximize learnings and guide investment decisions; building self-serve tools for product and engineering partners to answer questions and increase data literacy; collaborating cross-functionally with product, engineering, and design teams to ensure insights are integrated into products; and scaling work to mentor junior data scientists, improve processes, and provide perspective on key problems.
