Sr. Program Manager, Engineering

Position Overview

GitLab is seeking an experienced Sr. Program Manager to lead and contribute to cross-functional initiatives within the Engineering division. As part of the new R&D PMO team, this role offers a unique opportunity to build a new function from the ground up. The successful candidate will drive key initiatives across the company, focusing on the Engineering Division, managing projects ranging from small, self-led efforts to large-scale initiatives involving multiple stages of GitLab's operations. This role directly supports the priorities of the Engineering Division and involves close collaboration with the Engineering Leadership team at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Program manage larger cross-functional initiatives.
  • Independently run multiple projects, overseeing end-to-end delivery and ensuring efficiency and collaboration among impacted stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous process improvement and operational excellence within programs and across the division.
  • Examine and prioritize risks associated with programs.
  • Collaborate on operational strategy and direction with organizational stakeholders, providing insights and suggestions to steer R&D strategy and roadmap.
  • Coach intermediate program managers.
  • Embody GitLab's CREDIT values in all work.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in technical program/project management or equivalent.
  • Experience working on technical cross-functional programs in a large organization.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated written communication skills.
  • Technical ability and a willingness to learn quickly.
  • Ability to independently problem-solve and create strategic relationships across the organization.
  • Experience collaborating closely with stakeholders across engineering, product, marketing, sales, and legal.
  • Proven ability to influence others without direct management authority and motivate them to successfully complete tasks within required timelines.
