Requirements

  • Proficiency in engineering design tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Navisworks or BIM 360, ANSYS, MATLAB, Design X, Rhino)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to conceptualize inventions for new Disney IP and patents
  • Willingness to travel domestically (China) and internationally (primarily US) as required
  • Willingness to work shifts as required by global projects (typically 8 AM to 5 PM)

Responsibilities

  • Distill and negotiate technical requirements from high-level experience/story descriptions and artwork
  • Manage project scopes to conceive, design, and deliver innovative show elements including Audio-Animatronics figures and show action equipment, ensuring durability, reliability, safety, and meeting creative intent/requirements
  • Develop basic work plans (schedule, budget, resource definition)
  • Supervise daily activities of engineering team across all phases: engineering design, mockups, production, installation, testing, handover, and closeout
  • Execute and oversee design and engineering of dynamic electromechanical systems
  • Execute and oversee mechanical design Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Execute and oversee Audio-Animatronics rigid body dynamics (RBD) modeling
  • Responsible for hazard analysis, Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA), and failure analysis documentation and reporting
  • Manage and oversee subsystem suppliers/contractors
  • Responsible for SolidWorks modeling, drawing development, and release
  • Represent Show Mechanical Engineering team in core project teams and with suppliers
  • Collaborate with project procurement team on supplier contract bidding and awarding
