Houzz is seeking a world-class Data Scientist to join our Pro Software DS team. The team's mission is to provide data-driven insights to support Houzz software initiatives and make intelligent business decisions, ultimately leading to better products. This role will focus on uncovering hidden information within vast datasets to guide product development and strategic business direction.

Requirements

  • Education: Masters Degree
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience working within a Data Science role in a high-growth tech company.
  • SQL Proficiency: Strong proficiency in writing complex SQL queries (aggregate functions, joins) using Hive or Presto.
  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python or R.
  • Machine Learning & Statistical Modeling: Experience with machine learning and statistical modeling, with a focus on model evaluation and application.
  • Experimental Design: Proficiency in advanced experimental design, testing, and analysis.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-Motivation: Self-motivated, independent, and eager to learn, with the ability to make decisions and draw conclusions in ambiguous situations.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with leadership, product, design, and engineering teams to identify, define, and launch strategic and operational data science initiatives to improve Pro software performance.
  • Ensure product areas are performing in line with expectations and identify, diagnose, and recommend projects to enhance customer experience for software products.
  • Define key metrics (KPIs) to guide business decision-making across various aspects of the site.
  • Develop a deep understanding of business results and drivers, and proactively influence business decisions and metrics.
  • Design product experiments, interpret results, conduct root cause analysis, and draw impactful conclusions.
  • Own the end-to-end execution of projects by collaborating with a cross-functional team.
  • Work with data infrastructure and product engineering teams to define data collection needs.
  • Provide recommendations to assist with quick product ideation and feature launch decisions.

Ideal Qualifications (Bonus Skills)

  • Experience working with remote teams, particularly with a time zone difference.
  • Experience with SaaS solutions, user engagement, and funnel conversion.
  • Experience mentoring junior data scientists.
  • Ability to learn and act quickly, making decisions and drawing conclusions in the face of ambiguity.
