Senior Platform Engineer

About Paytient:

Paytient is on a mission to help people better access and afford care. Every day, millions of people need to see a doctor, often facing uncertainty about the process, cost, and recovery. Paytient partners with employers and health plans to ensure their members can easily access and afford care, recognizing that improved self-pay options change patient behavior and create value. This approach is becoming an emerging standard of care in health plan design and is now mandatory in some governmental health plans. Founded in 2018, Paytient is now part of nearly 6,000 employer health plans, providing certainty that people are better able to access and afford care.

We’re looking for passionate, collaborative builders to join our team and help us create a future where everyone can more easily access and afford care.

About The Role:

Paytient is seeking a talented and passionate Senior Platform Engineer to join our growing technology team. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the foundational tooling and infrastructure that empowers our engineering organization. Your responsibilities will include designing, building, and maintaining scalable, reliable, and secure platform services that enable our development teams to build, deploy, and scale high-quality software efficiently. If you thrive on automation, embrace infrastructure-as-code, and are driven to enhance developer productivity, we encourage you to apply and make a significant impact on our engineering velocity and product stability.

Our “remote with roots” model allows us to work where we thrive and gather as needed, often in our home office in Columbia, Missouri. This role can be performed from anywhere in the continental U.S., with the exception of Montana.

What You'll Do:

  • Architect and maintain scalable, self-service cloud infrastructure leveraging IaC and containerization/orchestration for reliable core services.
  • Build and standardize CI/CD pipelines and testing frameworks to optimize development workflows and accelerate delivery.
  • Implement comprehensive automation for provisioning, configuration, deployment, and monitoring to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Proactively ensure platform reliability, performance, and security through monitoring, alerting, and robust incident response.
  • Create and maintain thorough documentation of platform architecture and operational procedures.
  • Research and recommend new technologies to advance platform capabilities and improve the developer experience.
  • Develop and support standard libraries and packages to promote code consistency and efficiency across teams.
  • Partner with product and engineering teams to drive successful outcomes.

What You'll Bring:

  • At least 4 years in DevOps, Infrastructure, or Platform Engineering.
  • Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible) and Internal Developer Platforms (e.g., Backstage).
  • Skilled in containerization (Docker) and orchestration (ECS, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (CircleCI, GitHub Actions) and familiarity with feature flagging (e.g., LaunchDarkly).
  • Proficient in source control (Git, GitHub), build/package management (Gradle, Maven, NPM), monitoring/logging (Datadog), and cloud database management (RDS).
  • Strong scripting (Bash) and programming skills (Java/Kotlin, Go, TypeScript).
  • Knowledge of cloud security best practices and agile methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to articulate technical concepts.
  • A strong advocate for continuous improvement in engineering workflows, with a focus on increasing delivery speed and software quality.
