Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 8+ years of total relevant work experience
  • Expertise in regulated investment company and financial product taxation (preferred)
  • Experience with technology tools including advanced Excel functions, Power BI, and Alteryx (preferred)
  • Advanced degree such as Masters of Tax, JD or LLM (preferred)
  • CPA or licensed attorney (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Manage and review tax provisions, distribution calculations, qualification requirements, shareholder tax reporting, and tax compliance for mutual funds and ETFs
  • Apply knowledge of taxation of financial products to fund holdings
  • Oversee external tax service provider
  • Engage with front office personnel and respond to their inquiries
  • Use technology skills to identify and automate tax operational tasks
  • Ensure tax financial disclosure is in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
  • In partnership with management, establish the organization's tax strategy and ensure its implementation while minimizing regulatory and audit risk
  • Perform research, analysis, and interpretation of tax laws and cases to provide management with recommendations and opinions
  • Work directly with inside and outside counsel to develop tax planning strategies and tax return filing positions
  • Use strategic relationships to influence at all levels of the organization
  • Liaise with lines of business and vendors to ensure proper calculation and reporting of tax information
  • Provide guidance to junior team members to improve their performance
  • Advise and guide less experienced professionals and direct their work
