  • Masters’ Degree or foreign equivalent in Material Science or Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Nanoengineering, or related engineering field and two (2) years of experience as a Biomedical Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer or Applications Engineer in medical device industry; OR Bachelors’ Degree or foreign equivalent in Material Science or Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Nanoengineering, or related engineering field and five (5) years of experience as a Biomedical Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer or Applications Engineer in medical device industry
  • At least two (2) years’ experience with biosensor design based on electrochemistry, materials physics and biosignals first principles
  • At least two (2) years’ experience with wafer microfabrication, thin film coatings, and nanomaterial processing
  • At least two (2) years’ experience with surface analysis and electrochemical characterization techniques including FIB SEM, EDS, ToF-SIMS, Raman, chronoamperometry, cyclic voltammetry, and EIS
  • At least two (2) years’ experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ECO, and BOM
  • At least two (2) years’ experience with in vitro and in vivo testing of medical devices
  • At least two (2) years’ experience with MATLAB, JMP, and/or Minitab
  • At least two (2) years’ experience with DOE, RCA, Gage R&R, and IQ/OQ/PQ
  • At least two (2) years’ experience working with external suppliers and vendors
  • At least two (2) years’ experience drafting technical documentation, including specifications and engineering reports
  • Onsite in Northridge, CA – 4 days per week and permits remote work 1 day per week

Responsibilities

  • Conduct technical research in biosensor design through competencies in medical device design, sensing devices, and data analysis
  • Leverage first principles in electrochemistry, materials physics and biosignals fundamentals to develop next generation glucose and multianalyte sensors for Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) applications
  • Establish wafer fabrication and/or thin film coating, and nanomaterial processing processes for new sensing materials
  • Characterize biosensor materials and configurations with physical, surface analysis and electrochemical characterization techniques including FIB SEM, Energy-Dispersive Xray Spectroscopy (EDS), ToF-SIMS, Raman, chronoamperometry, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)
  • Design biosensor electrode layouts using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Review and approve design, process and Bill of Materials (BOM) changes through Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
  • Analyze signals from biosensor prototypes from both in vivo (human and animal) and in vitro studies using MATLAB, JMP and Minitab software
  • Leverage Design of Experiments (DOE), root cause analysis (RCA), and analytical data methodologies to optimize sensor performance, troubleshoot unexpected outcomes, and establish mechanistic understanding of sensor behavior and in vivo performance
  • Perform Gage Reproducibility & Repeatability (Gage R&R), Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Performance Qualification (PQ) for the validation and documentation of precision instruments for a cleanroom pilot manufacturing setting
  • Engage with external suppliers and vendors including contract manufacturers, raw material suppliers and equipment vendors, to ensure compliance with key performance indicators and quality metrics
  • Communicate findings to technical staff using presentations, drafting technical documentation to include specifications, engineering reports, validation plans, and validation reports
