Position Overview

As a translator at Bristol Myers Squibb, you will convert written material from English into a target language, ensuring the translated version conveys the original meaning as clearly as possible. This role also involves transcreation, which is a blend of translation and localization, adapting text culturally and linguistically for the reader. You will translate a variety of content across educational, medical, scientific, technical, IT, life sciences, and healthcare fields.

Responsibilities

  • Read through original material and rewrite it in the target language, ensuring the meaning of the source text is retained.
  • Engage in transcreation, adapting text culturally and linguistically to suit the reader.
  • Utilize translation memory software to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • Use specialist dictionaries, thesauruses, and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology.
  • Employ appropriate software for presentation and delivery.
  • Research phraseology to find the correct translation.
  • Consult with experts in specialist areas as assigned by BMS.
  • Retain and develop knowledge in specialist areas of translation.
  • Review and correct machine translations.
  • Ensure consistency with BMS style and terminology.
  • Proofread translated texts for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting.
  • Flag the English original if any issues are found with the original text.

Requirements

  • Mother tongue command of the target language and fluency in English.
  • Minimum 10 years of translation experience.
  • Experience with CAT tools.
  • Excellent proofreading skills.
  • Translation certification is a plus.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Pro.
