Job Description: Interop Systems Engineer

Salary: $200K - $225K Employment Type: Full-Time Location Type: Remote

Position Overview

Mysten Labs is building foundational infrastructure to accelerate the adoption of decentralized protocols based on blockchain technologies. We are establishing a new team, Interop, focused on extending the Data Platform team's responsibilities to support a broader set of RPC and data-heavy services built on top of Sui. The Interop Layer provides systems support for services running on Sui, covering all aspects of Sui interactions, state management, production reliability, and release management. This team will own horizontal systems that interface directly with the Sui network, such as Sui RPC nodes, and support verticals across teams like Cryptography, Move Platform, and Walrus by productionizing their externally-facing services.

Requirements

  • Experience: 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, including methodologies to ensure correctness and performance of implemented components.
  • Systems Language Fluency: Proficiency in a systems language such as Rust (used within Mysten) or C++.
  • Distributed Systems: A substantial role in the design and implementation of a large distributed system.
  • Secure Systems Design: Experience with the design and evaluation of secure systems, including secure programming, appropriate use of cryptography, and prevention of DoS attacks.
  • Communication Skills: Fluency in writing design documentation and participating in technical discussions and reviews (synchronously, asynchronously, in person, or remotely).
  • Technical Expertise: Expertise in one or more of the following areas: networking, distributed systems, storage, databases, operating systems, and runtimes, enabling the ability to read research papers and design systems based on them.
  • Interest in Decentralization: A keen interest in open, decentralized, permissionless technologies, and the intersection of contemporary technology, economics, finance, and governance.

We especially encourage engineers who fulfill some of the above requirements with no prior experience in blockchain technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain horizontal systems that interface directly with the Sui network (e.g., Sui RPC nodes).
  • Provide systems support for services built on top of Sui, ensuring state management, production reliability, and release management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Cryptography, Move Platform, Walrus) to productionize their externally-facing services.
  • Ensure the correctness and performance of implemented components.
  • Contribute to the design and evaluation of secure systems.
  • Write clear and concise design documentation.
  • Participate actively in technical discussions and reviews.
