The ideal candidate possesses expertise in evaluating technical decisions and their impact on users, with knowledge of GitLab or GitHub for managing multiple repositories. Fluency in industry-standard build tooling, containerization, and open-source development tools, libraries, and frameworks is required. Experience with modern build systems such as Buck or Bazel, along with professional experience working with Kubernetes clusters, is necessary. A solid understanding of testing infrastructure and experience in DevOps, Site Reliability, or Release Engineering are also essential.
This role involves partnering with the engineering organization to define standard practices for service operation and observation throughout their lifecycle. The candidate will establish an opinionated and cost-effective toolchain for delivering customer value at scale, and integrate developer systems to eliminate toil and keep developers in a flow state. Responsibilities include immersing oneself in the developer experience to identify and eliminate pain points, creating libraries, tools, and pre-production environments for vetting service APIs and microservice interactions, and unifying internal tooling and vendor services to automate, build efficiency, and optimize security. The role also entails innovating across the development lifecycle, from source code to monitoring and alerting, and establishing a culture of continuous quality delivery that scales with the company, ultimately building efficient systems and processes to increase the impact of surrounding engineers.
