Manager, Sales - Tolling - Remote
PayNearMeFull Time
Senior (5 to 8 years)
Candidates must possess a BS in Mechanical Engineering or Plastics Engineering with over 5 years of experience. Experience in regulated manufacturing environments, preferably in diagnostics or biodevice industries, is required, along with proven experience in high-volume manufacturing processes. Strong knowledge of plastic materials, injection molding, and tooling design principles is necessary, as is experience with contract manufacturing organizations and third-party suppliers. Proficiency in Moldflow and CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD is essential, along with experience using Operational Excellence tools like DMAIC, 5 why's, Fishbones, and FMEA.
The Senior Tooling Engineer will support contract manufacturers in maintaining current injection molding tooling and will be responsible for the design, development, and optimization of new plastic injection molds and tooling for high-volume manufacturing. This role involves defining and standardizing tool maintenance and cleaning processes, driving root cause analysis for common tool issues, and managing spare tool/part inventory. Responsibilities include benchmarking repair activities, identifying and proactively fixing weak areas in tools, managing tool health, and creating tool retirement plans. The engineer will also develop methods for real-time visibility of tool status and performance, review and approve tool designs and Moldflow analyses, and optimize tooling designs for manufacturability, cost-efficiency, and quality. Key duties include overseeing mold fabrication, testing, and validation, tracking mold build activities, supporting tool bring-up at supplier sites, and owning and updating mold design CAD and 2D files. The role also entails implementing continuous improvement initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams, conducting feasibility studies and risk assessments, investigating production issues, identifying sources of variation, and collecting process data for performance evaluation. Additionally, the engineer will partner with support teams to improve operations, maintain quality control and safety standards, contribute to business objectives, and assist with validation activities and non-conformance investigations.
