Position Overview

• Location Type: Hybrid (Washington D.C. and San Francisco, CA)
• Job Type: Full-Time
• Salary: $279K - $385K

This role involves designing and building performant, reliable, and scalable infrastructure, both on-premises and in the cloud, for OpenAI’s public sector customers. You’ll be responsible for administering systems, troubleshooting issues, and partnering with teams across engineering and security to ensure a scalable and reliable platform. The role requires on-site presence with customers and travel to customer sites.

Requirements

• US Security Clearance: Active US security clearance required.
• Experience: 5+ years of experience operating infrastructure and systems at scale.
• Secure Environments: Experience working out of secure environments and collaborating with on-site clients and remote colleagues.
• Containers & Orchestration: Hands-on experience with containers (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes).
• Scripting: Scripting experience with Python or equivalent for automating routine tasks.
• Troubleshooting: Strong troubleshooting skills across the entire stack (infrastructure, systems, and applications).
• Problem Solving: Ability to own problems end-to-end and proactively learn new knowledge.
• Adaptability: Thrive in dynamic environments and navigate ambiguity with ease.

Responsibilities

• Design and build performant, reliable, and scalable infrastructure for public sector customers.
• Administer systems from hardware to Kubernetes, ensuring standardized infrastructure for deploying OpenAI’s technology.
• Own the reliability of systems by being on-site with customers, utilizing observability tooling, and troubleshooting issues.
• Partner with engineering and security teams to ensure product support for unique infrastructure and use-cases.
• Automate routine tasks and standardize infrastructure offerings to enable team scaling.
• Partner with teams across the business, including engineering, security, and compliance, to enable products within new environments.
