Position Overview

Zoox is developing the first ground-up, fully autonomous vehicle fleet and the supporting ecosystem required to bring this technology to market. Sitting at the intersection of artificial intelligence, robotics, and design, Zoox aims to provide the next generation of mobility-as-a-service in urban environments. We’re looking for top talent that shares our passion and wants to be part of a fast-moving and highly execution-oriented team. Zoox is looking for a Sensor Engineer with a background in automotive sensor systems to join our Advanced Hardware Engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive test plans and execute sensor performance tests across structured lab environments, on-vehicle setups, and unstructured real-world scenarios.
  • Write robust and reusable Python scripts for data analysis and performance evaluation of radar, lidar, and other sensing modalities.
  • Leverage a deep understanding of radar physics to interpret sensor behavior in diverse environmental conditions and operational contexts.
  • Support the evaluation and selection of sensor suppliers by designing experiments, reviewing technical data, and assessing integration complexity.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including vehicle engineering, perception, and systems teams, to ensure seamless sensor integration.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of academic or industry experience in radar, lidar, and vision sensors.
  • Strong understanding of automotive radar systems, including basic signal processing principles, sensor physics, and environmental interactions.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for data analysis and test automation.
  • Hands-on experience integrating sensors (especially radar) into vehicle platforms, including troubleshooting and on-vehicle validation.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Robotics, or a related field.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant field.
  • Experience with a range of optical sensors, including lidar and cameras, and their integration into complex systems.
  • Experience with large datasets and statistical analysis to evaluate sensor performance and support data-driven decisions.

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $163,000 - $223,000
  • Components: Salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights.
  • A sign-on bonus may be offered.
  • Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling is determined by factors including relevant experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance.
