Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, along with a minimum of 7 years of experience in trust and safety, policy development, or related areas. Strong understanding of online safety issues, community building, and risk management is essential, as is the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Experience with policy development and implementation, particularly within a non-profit or community-driven organization, is highly desirable.
The Senior Trust & Safety Policy Manager will review, enhance, and develop Foundation-internal trust and safety policies to align with Wikimedia’s values and community needs, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to identify areas for improvement and recommend changes. They will also support the development and implementation of the Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC) across various communities, collaborating with the U4C and project teams. The role involves conducting safety risk assessments for new products and features, contributing to confidential case reviews, and investigating and responding to threats to the safety of Wikimedia projects and communities, including escalating emergency contacts to law enforcement when necessary.

The Wikimedia Foundation operates Wikipedia and other free knowledge projects, aiming to create a world where everyone can freely access and share knowledge. It provides a platform for users to read, contribute, and share content, while also supporting the volunteer communities that help maintain these projects. The foundation is funded by donations from individuals and institutions, emphasizing its nonprofit status. Unlike many other organizations, it focuses on making knowledge accessible to all without charge, advocating for policies that support free knowledge initiatives. Its goal is to empower individuals to contribute to and benefit from a collective pool of knowledge.
