Marqeta is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to independently deliver software solutions on the Banking and Money Movement Team. You will own and deliver projects, identifying solutions to ambiguous problems and collaborating with teams and cross-functional partners. This role emphasizes a Flexible First approach.

Lead the design and architecture of large-scale, complex systems and components.
Take ownership of major technical initiatives, providing direction and ensuring alignment with customer needs and business goals.
Drive architectural improvements for scalability, performance, and maintainability.

Collaborate with product, design, and other engineering teams.
Develop a deep understanding of the product, business needs, and user experience.
Independently drive the design and implementation of high-impact features and systems.

Participate in setting the technical vision and roadmap.

Requirements

10+ years of experience in backend engineering.
3+ years of experience with payments or the FinTech space.
Proven experience leading technical projects and teams.
Deep expertise in one or more backend technologies (e.g., Java, Python).
