Requirements

Candidates must have 8+ years of experience in backend software development for business-critical production systems, with a proven track record of leading the design or architecture of new and existing systems, ideally in search/information retrieval. Proficiency in search technologies like Lucene, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, Vector Databases, NLP, and LLMs is required, along with experience as a senior engineer or tech lead capable of mentoring junior engineers. A passion for building reliable and scalable systems and understanding their customer interactions is essential. U.S. Person status is mandatory due to access requirements for U.S. only data systems.

Responsibilities

The Senior Software Engineer will drive innovation in search and information retrieval, working with the ML team to advance a state-of-the-art platform integrating full-text search, vector retrieval, LLM-powered techniques, and relevance algorithms. Responsibilities include crafting a technical strategy for search, improving search latency and relevance, partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver customer value, and staying current with emerging technologies in the search/information retrieval domain. The role involves translating product team requirements into robust primitives and services, setting and meeting strict SLOs for relevance and latency, and shaping the long-term strategy for search capabilities.

Vannevar Labs

Advanced data collection for national security

About Vannevar Labs

Vannevar Labs enhances national security by providing advanced data collection and analysis tools primarily for government agencies and defense contractors. Their main product, Decrypt, simplifies the process of gathering public data from hard-to-reach sources while ensuring secure and anonymous data collection. This platform decentralizes data collection, pulling information from various global sources without requiring user interaction, using layered obfuscation methods to protect data integrity and user identities. Decrypt's open architecture allows for quick integration with other applications, making it adaptable to various needs. Vannevar Labs operates on a subscription-based model, charging clients for access to Decrypt, which ensures a steady revenue stream. The company's goal is to leverage technology to improve national security and maintain its reputation as a trusted provider in the defense sector.
