Member of Technical Staff, Applied Research
RunwayFull Time
Senior (5 to 8 years), Expert & Leadership (9+ years)
Candidates should have 3-4+ years of hands-on machine learning research experience, with a PhD preferred but not required if equivalent industry experience is demonstrated. Expertise in PyTorch, modern vision architectures like YOLO, SAM, and VLMs, and training pipelines is essential. Deep knowledge of object detection, instance segmentation, keypoint detection, SAM, and VLMs is required, along with a track record of meaningful research contributions demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications.
The Machine Learning Research Engineer will research and prototype novel computer vision models and training techniques, leading end-to-end ML research projects from problem identification to implementation. They will build and iterate on vision models in PyTorch focusing on segmentation, detection, and few-shot understanding, reproducing and extending results from top academic papers. Responsibilities include building open-source and production-quality implementations, working closely with product and engineering teams, and driving innovation in areas like segmentation and vision-language models. The role involves maintaining high standards for reproducibility, experimentation, and code quality, developing models that outperform existing state-of-the-art tools used by real users, and contributing to open source to shape Roboflow's research direction.
Platform for creating and deploying AI models
Roboflow offers a platform for engineers to create, train, and deploy machine learning models using their own images and videos. The platform features an auto-annotate API for efficient data labeling, along with tools for preprocessing and augmenting image data. Roboflow distinguishes itself from competitors by providing project management tools that enhance team collaboration on AI projects. The company's goal is to simplify the AI development process for a diverse range of clients, from individual engineers to large organizations.
