We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who’s optimizing cloud infrastructure & distributed systems and has experience with scale to join our Capacity & Cloud Economics Engineering team. We enable Affirm to build and scale our Infrastructure globally in an engineering efficient, developer friendly, cost-effective, resilient, performant and secure manner and ensure that Affirm can uphold our SLA commitments. Our work ranges from developing and maintaining a distributed load-testing framework, scaling for the holiday season, developing capacity models, reducing our infrastructure costs, capacity tuning and having fun along the way!

Requirements

  • Experience: 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in languages like Python or Kotlin.
    • Experience with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
    • Experience with load testing frameworks like Locust or a similar framework.
  • Other:
    • Track record of developing highly available distributed systems.
    • Experience defining a technical plan for the delivery of a significant feature or system component.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Delivery:
    • Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team.
    • Lead engineers on your team through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems.
    • Support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle through collaboration with product management, design & analytics.
  • Problem Solving & Advocacy:
    • Proactively identify project, process, technology or business issues and advocate for solutions.
    • Lead in solving identified issues.
  • Operations & Support:
    • Support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts.
    • Create and monitor metrics, escalate when needed, and support “keep the lights on” & on-call efforts.
  • Quality & Ownership:
    • Foster a culture of quality and ownership on your team by setting or improving code review and design standards.
    • Advocate for these standards beyond your team.
  • Talent Development:
    • Assist with right-sizing compute and data workloads to make our infrastructure highly available and cost-effective.
  • Collaboration & Optimization:
    • Collaborate with other infrastructure and product teams, providing technical guidance on capacity tuning to optimize production performance and enabling effective performance testing.
