Position Overview

Confluent is revolutionizing data movement by enabling real-time data streaming. Our platform empowers companies to react faster, build smarter, and deliver dynamic experiences. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team and contribute to building the next-generation Telemetry Platform. This platform is critical for scaling our Confluent Cloud platform by 10x, providing essential insights through metrics and traces for service operators and customers. You will play a key role in designing, architecting, and developing secure, multi-tenant cloud services, enhancing observability features, and solving complex distributed systems problems at scale across AWS, GCP, and Azure.

What You Will Do

• Independently drive the execution of complex technical projects from inception to completion.
• Build mission-critical backend services that deliver significant value to our customers.
• Architect, design, develop, and operationalize high-performance, scalable, reliable, and resilient services.
• Troubleshoot and debug technical issues within a complex technical stack involving microservices, containers, and virtualization.
• Ensure operational readiness of services and meet availability and performance Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for our customers.

Requirements

• 3+ years of industry experience in designing, building, scaling, and supporting backend systems in production.
• Solid understanding of software engineering best practices, including code reviews, a strong focus on quality, and documentation.
• Strong programming and algorithmic skills, with proficiency in at least one major programming language (e.g., Java, Go, C/C++, Python).
• Experience configuring and deploying distributed systems and microservices using modern tools (e.g., Kubernetes, Helm).
• Proven ability to drive project delivery and strong communication skills.
• Experience in driving operational excellence for large, production services.
• A strong sense of customer centricity, teamwork, technical leadership, and mentorship.
• Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

• Hands-on technical expertise in large-scale systems engineering or distributed systems.
• On-call experience handling critical systems.
• Experience with observability concepts, products, and components (e.g., metrics, traces, logging, Datadog, New Relic, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
