Human Interest is on a mission to ensure that people in all lines of work have access to retirement benefits. More than half of all working Americans are not saving enough for their future, often because their employers don't offer a retirement plan. Human Interest is changing this by making it affordable and accessible for small and medium-sized businesses to offer employees a path to financial independence through retirement savings. We are a high-growth fintech company backed by investors including Marshall Wace, Baillie Gifford, BlackRock, TPG (The Rise Fund), SoftBank, Glynn Capital, NewView Capital, USVP, Wing, and Uncork.

About the Role

As an engineer on the Shared Services team, you will help build our platform services, including our authentication service for end users and our notification service for customer communications. We are looking for customer-centric engineers passionate about building libraries and services for other engineers, and improving the security, availability, and resiliency of our platform.

What You Get To Do Every Day

  • Drive developer productivity through shared libraries, internal tools, and platform services.
  • Design and build secure, reliable, and scalable systems with a focus on user and customer needs.
  • Write clean, well-tested code that is easy to maintain and enables easy observability.
  • Hold high standards for code quality through code reviews and efficient processes.
  • Mentor other engineers and elevate the productivity of the engineering team.
  • Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to define and uphold a high standard of engineering excellence.
  • Take ownership of the service lifecycle—from architecture through deployment and support.
  • Continuously improve our engineering tools, infrastructure, and deployment pipelines.

What You Bring To The Role

  • Minimum 6 years of professional experience in designing, building, and scaling services, especially using cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Experience designing and operating large-scale, distributed systems and platform services like auth and email.
  • Strong communication skills: ability to discuss complex technical concepts with both engineers and non-engineers.
  • Strong ownership and bias for action: willingness to roll up your sleeves, drive projects from start to finish, and lead cross-functional projects while keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Ability to write understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability.
  • Proactive and empathetic mindset: a desire to fix problems for our customers.
