PPD, the clinical research division of Thermo Fisher Scientific, is transforming patient recruitment through its Patient First initiative. This group focuses on improving the patient experience using human-centered, digitally enabled solutions to optimize patient recruitment, engagement, site operations, and data collection.

PPD is looking for a Senior Patient Recruitment and Engagement Lead to join its Patient Recruitment division. This role is crucial for developing, executing, and delivering global patient recruitment and retention strategies. Key responsibilities include creating recruitment strategies, monitoring interventions, and providing site support.

Functional Lead Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Functional Lead for recruitment and retention strategy and related initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with the project team, including Project Leads, Clinical Team Managers, and CRAs.
  • Ensure the use of country and region-appropriate methods and compliance with requirements.
  • Train project team members on standard methodologies.
  • Identify potential risks, develop contingency plans, and escalate issues as needed.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Authority (SMA) on patient recruitment and retention topics in all client communications.
  • Track metrics and build progress reports on enrollment targets.

Strategy Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement patient recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Identify potential barriers to recruitment and retention and create risk mitigation plans.
  • Collaborate with clients and PPD's project team to devise strategic solutions tailored to study-specific protocols and patient populations.

Third-Party Vendor Collaboration

  • Coordinate the quality and performance of third-party providers and address any issues.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of provider invoices and oversee vendor budgets.
  • Work with internal Finance to manage financial matters related to providers.
  • Facilitate communication between providers, clients, and the internal project team.

Patient Diversity Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Patient Diversity Team to integrate the Diversity Plan into the Study Recruitment and Retention Plan.
  • Ensure client diversity requirements are considered during strategy design and monitored throughout enrollment.
  • Monitor patient diversity metrics throughout studies and report progress to clients.

Patient Enrollment Optimization

  • Partner with Patient Enrollment Optimization Vendor leads to avoid task redundancy and ensure compliance with vendor activities.
  • Gather feedback from project teams and clients to review vendor performance and provide input to the Vendor Relationship Lead.
  • Share patient recruitment and retention successes and lessons learned, including developing study-specific case studies.
  • Provide support for proposals and bid defenses related to recruitment lead activities.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic/vocational qualification.
  • Previous direct patient recruitment experience (comparable to 5-8 years) demonstrating the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Equivalency of appropriate education, training, and/or directly related experience may be considered.
