Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • At least eight years of experience with a mechanical engineering degree or at least ten years of relevant experience and a degree in another engineering discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred but not required (PE in Mechanical Engineering specified as knowledge area)
  • Knowledge and experience working with related equipment and systems such as HVAC, pumps, compressors, and blowers
  • Experience working with AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate/communicate effectively with internal/external stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to prioritize, perform, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Have or be able to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Knowledge to apply engineering skills toward process equipment, facility operations, and maintenance
  • Experience with Process Control Systems such as programmable logic controller (PLC) ladder logic and Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming is a plus (specific experience with Allen Bradley or Siemens systems is a plus)

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, or monitor preventative maintenance programs (e.g., inspections, testing, and maintenance) that comply with federal and local requirements and industry codes, standards, and guidelines
  • Provide engineering support toward documenting and/or troubleshooting operational issues with mechanical equipment
  • Identify and work to proactively resolve any compliance issues
  • Identify and document potential capital improvement projects necessary to improve operations by conducting site visits to document existing conditions, developing new requirements based on planned use, and creating preliminary scopes or budgetary cost estimates
  • Perform mechanical design reviews for facility improvement projects provided by third-party or in-house design efforts
  • Assess compliance of design packages with applicable Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), codes, and regulations as well as end-user requirements
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with other stakeholders, internal and external
  • Serve as a project manager on some assigned projects
  • Independently develop mechanical designs for renovations and upgrades to existing buildings at a federal site
  • Support operations and maintenance of building mechanical equipment such as HVAC, pumps, compressors, and blowers
