Position Overview

Etsy is seeking a Senior Manager, Consumer Communications to lead and shape earned media strategy across the UK and key European markets. This role is crucial for scaling Etsy’s presence in new and existing markets by tailoring our efforts to ensure our story resonates with regional audiences. You will be responsible for setting the regional PR vision, leading our external agency, and identifying impactful ways to tell Etsy’s story to consumer and lifestyle media. This position requires cross-functional collaboration with Marketing, Brand, and International teams to drive high-impact press coverage and uncover new storytelling opportunities.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Global Consumer Communications. In addition to salary, you will be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and competitive benefits.

Team Description

The Consumer Comms team at Etsy drives global relevance through consistent organic coverage that reinforces Etsy’s position as the premier destination for unique items from sellers worldwide. We are instrumental in shaping Etsy’s brand perception and fostering brand loyalty by highlighting what makes Etsy special, amplifying major initiatives, sharing seller stories, and crafting buzz-worthy campaigns that capture media attention and inspire buyers. In close collaboration with internal partners and external PR agencies, we execute high-impact storytelling that ensures Etsy stands out in the media landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy Ownership: Own consumer comms strategy across Europe and the UK, defining how Etsy is presented in the media and scaling our presence in existing and new markets.
  • Agency Management: Manage external PR agencies, providing strategic direction and ensuring a consistent flow of earned media coverage in lifestyle and consumer press.
  • Localization: Adapt global campaigns into locally relevant stories and activations, translating key initiatives to resonate effectively in the UK and European markets.
  • Narrative Development: Build compelling narratives and story angles that generate high-impact media interest across key verticals such as home, style, and gifts.
  • Proactive & Reactive Storytelling: Balance strategic campaign-driven storytelling with the agility to capitalize on relevant cultural moments.
  • Media & Influencer Relations: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and influencers throughout the UK and Europe.
  • Spokesperson Support: Identify and execute opportunities for our consumer-facing spokespeople, including messaging development, quote crafting, and media preparation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with International, Marketing, Social, and Brand teams, as well as the broader Consumer Comms team, to amplify campaigns and discover new storytelling avenues.
  • Event Execution: Plan, lead, and execute local press events for key campaigns, securing coverage and strengthening media relationships.
  • Reporting & Amplification: Share and amplify media coverage internally, providing regular updates on media moments, campaign impact, and press results to key leaders and partners.
  • Seller Sourcing: Source and vet sellers and products for localized media outreach.
  • Issue Management: Support regional issues management and reputational strategy as required.
  • Mentorship: Mentor junior team members, focusing on elevating their work and media relationships.
