Requirements

  • At least three years of experience working in a law firm or in-house legal department, in the areas of technology, online platforms, software developers or similar clients
  • Strong academic credentials and membership of a relevant Bar, or other recognized professional qualifications or equivalent membership; degree in Computer Science or similar subject additionally preferred
  • Sound business judgement and the ability to deliver practical, commercially friendly and comprehensive advice
  • Passion for IP, open source and technology licensing, with broad experience in open source software projects and compliance processes
  • Detail-oriented, with extensive experience in IP transactions, including cloud computing services, technology service and licensing issues
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to establish strong working relationships with business stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-moving environment and work independently to manage day-to-day compliance work and handle end-to-end transaction processes from initial contract review through to negotiations and execution
  • Good command of Mandarin Chinese and English (both written and oral) as a working language
  • Enthusiasm for the latest developments in cloud computing services and cutting-edge technology matters

Responsibilities

  • Advise on a wide range of legal and commercial matters in the areas of cloud computing, technology licensing and product compliance
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex software license agreements, professional services agreements, and other general commercial agreements
  • Collaborate with external counsel and other Tencent attorneys based around the world, including in mainland China, Singapore, EU, and the US, to provide compliance and regulatory analysis and advice for international business initiatives
  • Identify potential legal issues and pitfalls and devise creative solutions for business teams to efficiently mitigate compliance risks
  • Develop and continuously identify areas of improvement in internal policies, case and knowledge management, trainings, and processes to ensure operational efficiency and implement practices for alignment with international regulatory standards
  • Develop online training materials and conduct training sessions on compliance and regulatory topics for business stakeholders
