Requirements

Legal knowledge of Japanese law and legal system is essential (legal qualification in other major common law/civil law jurisdictions considered if sufficient knowledge of Japanese law); Japanese Bar qualification is a plus
Minimum of 10 years of post-admission working experience in a corporate legal department or reputable law firm (non-Bengoshi)
Demonstrated in-depth experience in drafting, negotiating, and reviewing complex commercial contracts under Japanese civil law, Japanese commercial law, compliance, and overall legal advisory
Preferred: Experience working in a Multinational Corporation (MNC) environment
Business proficient in English

Responsibilities

Draft, negotiate, and manage a wide range of commercial contracts with customers, agents, and suppliers
Provide legal advice on tender processes and identify associated legal risks
Manage the company's contracts database, policies, and notarial services
Provide legal opinions and practical guidelines to ensure company activities comply with local laws, regulations, and authorized standardization bodies
Offer comprehensive legal support to internal stakeholders
Handle and monitor legal cases, representing the company in judicial and administrative hearings
Manage contractual disputes, aiming for the best commercial outcome, including oversight of external legal counsel
Act as the entity's Ethics Officer, promoting high compliance standards
Lead coordination and communication between the company and regulatory authorities
Ensure corporate compliance and governance, managing board meetings, and drafting/reviewing resolutions
Act as the Company's Corporate Secretary
Develop and conduct legal and compliance training for employees
Define and manage the Internal Rules and Regulations (IRC) Program to ensure compliance with government regulations and company policies, including establishing a yearly Legal Site Audit plan
