Position Overview

Nasdaq's Alternative Data group specializes in creating unique and insightful data products from non-traditional data sources. These datasets, such as sentiment measures, real-time vehicle tracking, satellite monitoring, and consumer insights from anonymized transactions, are increasingly vital in financial markets. Hedge funds and active asset managers seek these alternative data sources for a unique edge in their investment processes. As a leading provider of Alternative Data, Nasdaq delivers innovative products to sophisticated investment funds.

The Alternative Data group is seeking a Senior Investment Data Analyst to research and develop innovative data products that yield quantitatively measurable market insights. This is an applied role, with the majority of time dedicated to coding, data analysis, and product development.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with peers to onboard and evaluate a broad array of unique data.
  • Leverage financial market expertise to develop new Alternative Data products, from concept to completion.
  • Perform quantitative and fundamental analyses of new products to assess their informational advantage.
  • Build product collateral, including web documentation, white papers, and presentations.
  • Work closely with Sales and Marketing teams to bring new products to market.
  • Interact directly with clients to answer technical questions about products.

Requirements and Skills

  • Experience: 4+ years in data analysis/engineering/science within the capital markets or financial services industry.
  • Financial Expertise: Applied knowledge of financial analysis, statistics, and modeling.
  • Data Analysis: Demonstrated experience in exploratory data analysis/mining with large datasets.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Python and SQL.
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Experience in NLP/ML/AI.
    • Prior experience with Databricks, Spark, Redshift, AWS, and other big data and cloud technologies.
    • Experience with product development/management.
  • Personal Attributes: Hardworking, intellectually curious, able to excel in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Certifications: CFA, FRM, or other similar designation preferred.
  • Education:
    • Required: Undergraduate degree in Mathematics/Statistics, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
    • Preferred: Master's degree.
