Position Overview

Marqeta is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager to shape, transform, and create an exceptional experience for engineers. This role involves identifying, developing, and leading strategic investments to accelerate development iterations, enhance productivity, and promote developer happiness. You will boost developer productivity through the adoption of AI-driven tools and drive engagement by onboarding and expanding a world-class engineering organization through learning and knowledge sharing. The ideal candidate is a strong thought leader in developer productivity with extensive software development experience, a self-starter, and a passionate manager dedicated to developer productivity and happiness.

The Impact You'll Have

• Oversee the design, development, testing, deployment, and craft of your team’s projects, ensuring solutions are highly relevant to developer productivity and happiness.
• Promote and influence a data-driven culture across the organization, using objective measurement for communication, project execution, decision-making, and progress tracking.
• Build relationships across Engineering, conduct regular DevEx surveys, use developer feedback to build and prioritize a strategy and roadmap for your team and company-wide products.
• Articulate projects, key results, and product strategy in clear, simple narratives understandable to your team, the developer community, and engineering leadership.
• Utilize extensive management and technical expertise to manage, mentor, and recruit engineers, promoting developer productivity within your team and across Marqeta.

Who You Are

• Build, manage, and inspire the developer experience team to achieve world-class developer experience within Marqeta, recruiting engineering talent as needed.
• Establish and foster a team environment where engineers can address Marqeta's significant challenges in a psychologically safe setting, promoting innovation, continuous improvement, and experimentation.
• Develop superior tooling and metrics to understand the health of SDLC systems and establish a data-driven engineering culture.
• Solve developer problems by understanding their needs and devising both tactical and strategic solutions.
• Act as an evangelist for developer experience, partnering with engineering teams to share the Developer Experience’s mission, vision, and roadmap.
• Define DevEx survey questions, conduct surveys across the engineering organization, collect and analyze feedback, and define execution areas to achieve world-class developer experience.
• Enable Marqeta developers by driving adoption of Gen-AI apps (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Amazon Q Developer) with clearly defined success measurements.
• Drive adoption of newly created tools and services, managing expectations and communication with the development community and engineering leadership.
• Work with developers to resolve day-to-day issues, directing your team to build scalable and self-serviceable solutions.
• Review and provide feedback on features, technology, architecture, designs, time & budget estimates, and test strategies.
• Manage project risks and engage in creative problem-solving.
• Develop and evolve engineering and business processes to optimize team efficiency.
• Partner with other teams across Marqeta on achieving common goals.
