About the role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Developer Infrastructure team. You’ll be responsible for nurturing a strong existing team responsible for the process and technology that support our internal software development teams. You should be comfortable maintaining a complex roadmap and have the ability to prioritize and balance work across our individual contributors. You know how to support engineers at all stages of their career, and are motivated to help them do their best work.

Responsibilities

  • Support and develop engineers through feedback and coaching, setting context and expectations, and eliminating barriers to execution.
  • Own the engineering roadmap for Developer Infrastructure and manage projects within that roadmap.
  • Set priorities in partnership with the Infrastructure leadership team, establish delivery sequence, and drive day-to-day execution against those priorities.
  • Own the reliability of our Developer Infrastructure. Our engineering teams are responsible for the uptime of their systems, and you will ensure that your team has the focus, tools, and process needed to maintain reliability.
  • Partner with other engineering leaders in driving process changes across teams to ensure that we continue to scale effectively.
  • Be responsible for maintaining a healthy culture in your team, with support from engineering leadership and the People team.

What you will achieve

  • In the first month: Build a deep understanding of Chronosphere’s infrastructure and your team. You will have time to learn about how our product uses cloud technology, our developer’s needs, your team’s roadmap, and will contribute to day-to-day execution as you gain familiarity with your projects.
  • In 3 months: Take over execution planning and fully manage your direct reports. You will understand our longer-term Developer Infrastructure strategy, our internal customers, our technical and financial constraints, and how we support our developer’s work experience.
  • After 3 months: Take ownership of the roadmap for our Developer Infrastructure, working with leadership to establish priorities and a delivery plan and driving hiring and day-to-day execution against that plan.

Requirements

  • Empathy and an understanding of how to empower and support engineers to do their best work.
  • A high level of organization and the ability to manage multiple projects from initial concept through delivery and production support. You should be comfortable iterating from high level requirements to execution plan, and have a track record of successfully delivering multiple complex concurrent projects.
  • Extensive experience with full developer toolchains in a modern SDLC including CI/CD technologies, build automation and pipelines, and automated testing. You stay current with best practices and emerging technologies in Developer Infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with public cloud infrastructure supporting multi-tenant software as a service products. We deliver a highly reliable service to demanding business customers, and you should understand how this impacts the way product is built, validated.
