About Stash

Stash is revolutionizing the gaming industry by empowering game developers to bypass traditional platforms and their high commission fees. We provide developers with a comprehensive suite of tools, including web shops, custom game launchers, and payment processing, enabling them to build direct-to-consumer experiences and engage with their players on their own terms. Founded by industry veterans Justin Kan (Twitch co-founder), Robin Chan (Zynga executive), and Dan Borstelmann (Google engineer), Stash is built on a foundation of creating great game experiences and successful companies.

Role Overview

Stash is seeking an experienced and collaborative engineer who will not only contribute to product development but also significantly impact the success of fellow engineers and the company as a whole. We are looking for a communicative, humble, and emotionally intelligent individual who can work effectively on their own projects and foster the productivity of the entire engineering team. A key aspect of this role involves holding engineering team members accountable to ensure efficient product delivery and maintain momentum across the product organization.

Humility is a critical metric for this hire. While strong engineering skills are valued, the ideal candidate will excel in communication and leadership, guiding and facilitating the team rather than dictating tasks. You will partner with product and design teams to define the engineering roadmap, leveraging your extensive product development experience to guide technical decisions. Subsequently, you will be responsible for holding yourself and your teammates accountable for executing this vision.

Furthermore, you will ensure the essential components of a successful engineering organization are in place. This includes creating space for addressing technical debt, implementing robust instrumentation and monitoring for our infrastructure, guaranteeing 24/7 response times for our payments infrastructure, ensuring smooth project and workstream management, and collaborating with other engineers to manage the growth of our engineering teams and codebase as the company scales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build applications and infrastructure to support product features.
  • Interview and hire new engineering team members.
  • Ensure our infrastructure can and will scale as we grow, and work with other technical leaders to ensure our bases are covered.
  • Maintain a high degree of autonomy, accountability, and responsibility within our engineering organization.
  • Define the engineering team’s roadmap in concert with product and design.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience leading and managing engineering teams, either as a tech lead or people lead.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels and personality types.
  • Detail-oriented and able to hold colleagues accountable for their work.
  • Extensive experience working on software engineering for large-scale applications.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals and first principles thinking.
