Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in a software engineering role, with progressively increasing responsibility
  • 7+ years in a management role within software engineering
  • Experience as a roboticist developing products, ideally in warehouse automation and/or supply chain
  • Experience with modern programming languages such as C/C++, Python, Javascript/Typescript, Rust
  • Demonstrated experience applying AI/ML technologies to real-world hardware and systems, focusing on scalable, reliable solutions
  • Strong understanding of ML applications across devices, embedded software, robotics, and related domains, emphasizing feasibility and impact
  • Proven expertise in applying SOLID principles to create robust, maintainable, and adaptable software architectures in agile environments
  • Skilled in best practices for integrating modern machine learning and AI technologies
  • World-class coach, mentor, and leader able to inspire teams and manage diverse staff from expert-level to early-career engineers
  • Willing and able to work from the Charlestown, MA office at least 3x per week

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage multiple software engineering teams, including individual contributors and engineering managers
  • Negotiate the distribution of features across releases for all software teams, empowering engineers to own their work
  • Lead the overall software development process, creating processes that enable high levels of execution
  • Collaborate with Pickle’s leadership team to shape the long-term vision and direction of software development efforts
  • Partner with Product & Program Management to track progress toward releases and changes in deadlines or deliverables
  • Identify gaps within the software team (structural or skill-based) and collaborate with People Operations to fill, upskill, or outsource
  • Oversee the software engineering budget, making data-driven decisions on investments in tools, technology, and personnel
  • Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers as necessary
