Requirements
Bachelor's degree in safety, health, industrial hygiene/health or relevant field, OR associate degree in relevant field with 2 years’ experience in related electric utility field operations (Safety & Health Coordinator), OR High School diploma/GED with 4 years in S&H administration, field experience or related electric utility field operations experience
In addition to education: 2 years’ experience in S&H or electric utility operations (Safety & Health Coordinator); 4 years for Senior; 6 years of S&H or related nuclear power station experience for Consultant
Valid Driver’s License
Knowledge of intervention techniques and experience in instruction and meeting facilitation
Understanding of principles of organization development and principles of performance improvement methodologies
Extensive knowledge of OSHA standards
Certified Asbestos Contractor Supervisor, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, and/or Certified Utility Safety Professional desirable but not required (may be required post-hire)
Proficient oral and written skills
Basic computer skills
Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and independence
Establish and maintain permanent residence within a 45-minute safe drive time to the Northeast Service Center, North Haven
Position involves daily as well as occasional overnight travel
Responsibilities
Instruct, advise, and assist in carrying out the Company’s safety and health, public safety, and S&H event prevention programs, policies, and procedures
Prepare and advise on the use of programs and materials for meetings and conferences in S&H event prevention
Conduct observations of AEP personnel, tools, equipment, and work practices to assure safe and proper procedures are observed
Advise and assist in S&H event analysis and serve as a resource to any event analysis committee
Maintain a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing safety and health
Review and assist as needed with the location’s efforts to inspect contractors’ adherence to safety regulations
Promote and enforce the Company’s S&H event Prevention and Safety and Health programs
Advise and assist management on the administration of safety and health (S&H) event policies and procedures, including public safety matters
Disseminate safety and health information throughout areas of responsibility
Coordinate the implementation of safety and health programs
Conduct safety and health observations and visitations
Render guidance on safety and accident prevention to other members of management
