Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; four-year college degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years in a transportation/operations supervisory role
  • 3 years of routing experience, with 1 year in a high volume cases shipped environment
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Access)
  • Proficient in Routing Software
  • Computer skills
  • Inventory control skills
  • Supervisory/leadership skills
  • Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, and other regulatory requirements
  • Ability to openly and effectively communicate with all associates/departments
  • Ability to handle day-to-day operations
  • Ability to use, or learn to use, equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) such as OmniTracs, Roadnet, Mainframe, Tandem, and other tools
  • Knowledge or ability to learn MSDS information regarding all materials used

Responsibilities

  • Manage the administration of daily outbound shipments to customers and other distribution centers by ensuring routes are scheduled and sequenced in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner
  • Ensure a safe and secure working environment and operate in a profitable manner
  • Ensure optimum delivery reliability to the customer by analyzing existing routes and driving improved efficiencies
  • Initiate and support routing projects to reduce overall miles, increase on time, reduce goal distance, optimize depots and service territory, and cross-divisional transfers
  • Drive and support important routing metrics: On Time, Cases/Truck/Mile/Stop, Goal Distance
  • Anticipate, analyze, and troubleshoot problems with routes and devise cost-effective and legal solutions; implement them
  • Prepare and/or analyze various reports on a daily and/or weekly basis
  • Work closely with sales and warehouse departments to determine delivery feasibility
  • Proactively review service and cost improvements by identifying strategic depot locations
  • Schedule and facilitate routing meetings with sales leadership team to review and align on delivery time windows and optimization of routes
  • Achieve fuel and miles savings by improving goal distance
  • Manage support of the routers
  • Counsel, consult, communicate, instruct, and monitor direct-reporting employees (routers) in acceptable practices and within department and Company policies and procedures
  • Develop routers by facilitating or arranging for appropriate and timely training
  • Act as a change agent for the routing department to optimize functions
  • Work with transparency in processes and decision making; strategically plan for future changes or optimization within the department
  • Act as an owner of the routing department and provide leadership through recognition, encouragement, and rewards
