Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Current registered nurse license to practice in the State of Iowa
Professional certifications prior to working in applicable areas: Med Surg - ACLS, BLS; ED - PALS, TNCC (within one year); Postpartum/NRP/L&D - Fetal Monitoring, STABLE
Experience preferred, but not required
Bi-lingual experience preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

Assist the Resource Nurse in the management and care of assigned patients through direct patient care, nursing diagnosis, and patient teaching
Participate in educational programs as an educator/consultant (if applicable)
Make patient assignments to team members in collaboration with Resource Nurse to provide efficient nursing care
Log into Vocera adding room assignments and update electronic white boards with patient information
Coordinate post-discharge follow-up calls
Perform patient assessments, hourly rounding, initial nursing assessments for new admissions, admission notes, ongoing assessments, and patient notes
Coordinate physician rounds and notifications with the Resource Nurse
Carry out new orders or communicate them to team members; acknowledge all new orders and follow through
Make observations and suggestions to attending physicians
Provide bedside report for oncoming staff
Provide bedside care and functions to patients
Responsible for appropriate discharge, patient teaching, and complete discharge routine documentation
Know hospital area resource services and insurance certification procedures for patients
Administer medications and treatments per physician orders; review H&P, meds, treatments, etc
Utilize principles of good leadership and management in organizing nursing care on the unit
Serve as liaison between patient, physician, and staff
Attend and conduct in-services meetings if needed
Record and document all clinical and patient data
