Requirements

  • Active RN license in the state of practice (for RN)
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) upon hire, or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Medical Certification Association (AMCA) upon hire, or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) upon hire, or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Medical Technologists (AMT) upon hire, or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) upon hire (for MA)
  • Preferred: Associate's graduate of Medical Assistant program or diploma (for MA)
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
  • Knowledge of principles of growth and development and ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of patient's status
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the population served in the department

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care to patients and families (RN)
  • Communicate with physicians and other healthcare team members to provide excellent patient care (RN)
  • Perform selected medical assistant and clerical duties to assist in care for clinic patients following established standards, practices, and competency (MA)
  • Work collaboratively with other clinic staff to solve practice-related problems
  • Perform general nursing care to patients
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards
  • Coordinate patient care activities for the clinic
  • Prepare equipment and assist provider during procedures, treatments, examinations, and testing of patients
  • Observe, record, and report patient’s condition and reactions to drugs and treatments to provider
  • Oversee appointment scheduling and ensure preferences are given to patients in emergency situations; maintain timely flow of patients
  • Greet patients and prepare them for physical examination
  • Screen patients for appropriate information including obtaining health history and taking vitals; document in patient chart
  • Instruct patient in collection of samples and tests
  • Respond to patient phone calls in a timely manner with appropriate input from the physician
  • Educate patients and families about diagnostic process, medications, nutrition, and maintenance of health and wellness
  • Suggest solutions to patient care crisis problems and complaints
  • Maintain exam rooms with necessary supplies and materials; ensure cleanliness; prepare list of medical supplies needed
  • Assure appropriate labeling of pathology specimens according to lab protocol as needed
  • Perform quality control and maintain records on all lab testing
