Requirements

  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Competency in emergency operational procedures, including CPR and emergency measures for cardiac/respiratory arrest
  • Ability to maintain skill level in operation of home dialysis therapy-related equipment, including troubleshooting via telephone
  • Knowledge of company policies, procedures, state and federal regulations for dialysis care
  • Ability to assess patients' home environment suitability for home dialysis
  • Proficiency in reviewing, transcribing, and entering physician lab orders into Medical Information System
  • Compliance with policies for lab specimen collection, packaging, delivery, and reporting
  • Ability to administer medications as prescribed, including algorithms and controlled substance records

Responsibilities

  • Provides safe and effective training and oversight of home dialysis therapies to patients per standards and regulations
  • Rotates with other licensed staff for adequate coverage
  • Participates in staff training, orientation of new staff, and required staff meetings
  • Delivers outstanding quality patient care per company quality goals; submits CQI information and participates in CQI meetings
  • Assists in identifying and evaluating candidates for Home Therapies Program
  • Trains patients and families on safe operation and maintenance of home therapies equipment via formal program
  • Educates patients and families on ESRD, Kidney Options Program, renal dialysis, access, and related conditions
  • Assesses patient/family readiness for home dialysis and ongoing suitability
  • Provides safe home therapy support care to ESRD patients; assesses response per protocols
  • Communicates patient issues to physician; reports adverse events, equipment problems to management/physician with documentation
  • Coordinates patient transfers to hemodialysis clinic when needed
  • Maintains competency in emergency procedures and initiates CPR/emergency measures as needed
  • Administers medications as prescribed and documents accordingly
  • Directs patients in preventative maintenance of home therapies equipment, including water systems
  • Coordinates with company products division on delivery, operation, and maintenance of equipment
  • Admits new patients and documents all relevant data
