Requirements

  • Licensed as Registered Nurse (RN, RN II, RN III) governed by Nurse Practice Act, Administrative Code, professional standards, and Rogers Memorial Hospital policies/procedures
  • Ability to complete initial assessments, collect/record/analyze pertinent data (patient strengths/limitations, cultural/spiritual/ethnic factors, discharge needs, medical/physical status, medication history, age-specific needs) within prescribed timeframes
  • Skills in involving patient's support systems (family/friends) in assessments and documentation
  • Knowledge of patient rights, advocacy, privacy/confidentiality, and obtaining consents/signatures
  • Familiarity with hospital policies/procedures on unit safety, gown/contraband searches, patient orientation
  • Ability to initiate/update treatment plans, participate in care conferences/staffings, develop/interpret age-appropriate goals/interventions
  • Competence in reviewing lab data, evaluating risks (falls, self-abuse, suicidality, assaultive behavior), assessing patient status changes
  • Proficiency in safe/accurate medication administration (right patient/dose/time/route), knowledge of medication purposes/effects, transcribing/implementing physician orders

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional nursing activities to help patients achieve/regain/maintain maximum physical, emotional, social functions
  • Seek consultation with health team members as needed; provide patient information to Patient Accounts for compliance with statutes
  • Complete initial assessments and documentation, including patient strengths/limitations, cultural/spiritual/ethnic factors, discharge needs, medical status, medication history, age-specific data
  • Observe/document patient interactions with family/friends; obtain assessment data from support systems
  • Act as patient advocate: explain rights, obtain consents/signatures, protect privacy/confidentiality, assist in orientation
  • Employ hospital policies on safety, conduct gown/contraband searches respectfully, provide unit information sensitively
  • Initiate/update treatment plans: participate in planning/modifying care, evaluate data from others, represent nursing in care conferences, write/review goals
  • Identify/interpret/document data from interviews/observations/assessments, confer with professionals, review lab data, follow up with doctors
  • Evaluate/implement fall precautions, age-appropriate interventions for risks (self-abuse, suicidality, assaultive behavior)
  • Assess changes in patient status and document interventions
  • Implement patient care, including safe/correct medication administration, accurate transcription/implementation of orders, documentation of responses
