Requirements

  • Expertise in EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) activities, including strategic planning, tactical execution, risk assessments, hazard control, incident investigations, and compliance with local, state, federal, and international regulations
  • Knowledge of Xylem’s global EHS strategy, policies, and consensus standards
  • Ability to manage dotted line reports, including personal and technical development and accountability
  • Skills in conducting site visits, EHS training (CBT and in-person), environmental inspections, contractor safety programs, job hazard analyses, ergonomic assessments, safety audits, and incident response (e.g., Incident Commander for emergencies)
  • Proficiency in tracking, reporting, and analyzing EHS metrics, sustainability metrics (waste, water, energy, GHG emissions), industrial hygiene results, and regulatory recordkeeping via EHS management systems
  • Strong leadership, coaching, partnering, and communication skills to embed EHS into operations, foster continuous improvement, and liaise with regulatory agencies/third parties

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction, coaching, and subject matter expertise on all EHS activities to regional operational leaders
  • Lead strategic planning and tactical execution of EHS and security programs to meet safety, health, and environmental commitments
  • Implement continuous improvement in injury prevention, hazard control, and environmental impact reduction through risk assessments, mitigation strategies, and action plans
  • Lead and manage incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
  • Drive alignment with Xylem’s global EHS strategy, developing site-specific goals and KPIs
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and standards; act as primary liaison with regulatory agencies and third parties for audits, inspections, and corrective actions
  • Partner with leadership to embed EHS principles into operations and decision-making; minimize environmental footprint and achieve sustainability targets (e.g., reduce waste-to-landfill, water intensity, GHG emissions)
  • Track and report on risk assessments, hazards, industrial hygiene, sustainability metrics, and countermeasures
  • Promote continuous improvement culture, cross-functional collaboration, loss prevention/control, and communications on incidents, near misses, lessons learned, and safety alerts
  • Analyze and monitor EHS metrics; provide feedback to senior management on performance and improvements
  • Manage dotted line reports' development and accountability; conduct routine site visits
  • Coordinate, develop, and deliver EHS training ensuring 100% completion
  • Lead environmental inspections (air, water, waste) and cradle-to-grave waste compliance
  • Manage contractor safety programs
  • Lead risk assessments, job hazard analyses, ergonomic assessments, safety audits, and prioritize actions
  • Oversee incident response as Incident Commander for spills/emergencies
  • Ensure accurate recordkeeping of safety/environmental data
  • Lead cross-functional teams on accident investigations and preventive measures
