Position Overview

Hi, we're The Browser Company 👋 and we're building a better way to use the internet. Browsers are unique in that they are one of the only pieces of software that you share with your parents as well as your kids. Which makes sense, they're our doorway to the most important things — through them we socialize with loved ones, work on our passion projects, and explore our curiosities. But on their own, they don’t actually do a whole lot, they’re kind of just there. They don’t help us organize our messy lives or make it easier to compose our ideas. We believe that the browser could do so much more — it can empower and support the amazing things we do on the internet. That’s why we’re building one: a browser that can help us grow, create, and stay curious.

To accomplish this lofty task, we’re building a diverse team of people from different backgrounds and experiences. This isn’t optional, it’s crucial to our mission, as we need a wide range of perspectives to challenge our assumptions and shape our browser through a bold, creative lens. With that in mind, we especially encourage women, people of color, and others from historically marginalized groups to apply.

As a Prompt Engineer at the Browser Company, you will play a crucial role in shaping how our new web browser, Dia, interacts with users. You will be responsible for creating and iterating on prompts while considering effective, scalable systems for leveraging large language models (LLMs). You’ll work closely with Product and Engineering teams to define how Dia understands and responds to users, setting a new standard for seamless and intelligent web browser experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, experiment with, and refine prompts to achieve desired outputs from large language models (LLMs).
  • Continuously iterate on prompts based on feedback, testing, and evaluation data.
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to understand user needs and translate requirements into prompt strategies and solutions.
  • Work closely with Engineering teams to build tools that streamline prompt iteration, prompt tuning, and LLM evaluation pipelines.
  • Design evaluations to steer feature development and ensure our prompts deliver on their intended requirements.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of prompts and share best practices across the company.
  • Stay at the forefront on emerging trends, models, and frameworks in AI and LLMs.

Requirements

  • Experience: 4+ years of experience in product, engineering, or design, with hands-on experience taking a product from concept to its initial release (v1).
  • LLM Proficiency: Advanced user of ChatGPT, Claude, or similar tools, with hands-on experience developing and using custom prompts. Previous experience in prompt engineering or fine-tuning is a strong plus but not required.
  • AI Interest: Strong interest in staying up-to-date with the latest developments in AI and LLM technologies, particularly how they can be applied to real-world products.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to translate product direction and requirements into effective prompts that deliver on user needs. You’re pragmatic, motivated by ambiguous problems, and excited to work in a startup environment with quick product validation cycles.
  • Time Zone Overlap: Primarily focused on hiring in North American time zones and require that folks have 4+ hours of overlap time with team members in the Eastern Time Zone.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Flexible Compensation Model: Employees have the ability to choose the cash-to-equity ratio that best suits their individual needs. Every offer includes three options: a salary-optimized offer, an equity-optimized offer, and a balanced offer.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: In addition to a competitive salary and equity package, we provide every employee with a comprehensive benefits package, including employee medical coverage.
