Requirements

  • Expertise in identifying applicable Engineering Design Standards, Engineering Functional Standards, Engineering Specifications, and Regulatory requirements (internal and external)
  • Ability to lead overall design delivery for capital projects
  • Proficiency in coordinating design across all phases, including conceptual and basic design reviews
  • Experience directing development of design requirements and schedules
  • Knowledge of A/E firm selection and coordination, including earned value progress systems
  • Skills in expediting design decisions and managing information flow between design teams and stakeholders
  • Capability to ensure design meets approved intent through interactions with design firms, specialists, and end users
  • Experience in design governance, resolving design-related problems, and improving inefficiencies
  • Familiarity with developing SOPs, project delivery instructions, and best practices
  • Ability to review/approve key design personnel and work with technical/constructability resources
  • Understanding of design replication and value engineering
  • Proficiency in reviewing design invoices and participating in KPI assessments
  • Experience in selecting verification professionals and developing Project Verification Plan, Traceability Matrix, and risk assessments
  • Skills in coordinating verification, discrepancy tracking, and management

Responsibilities

  • Lead identification of applicable Engineering Design Standards, Engineering Functional Standards, Engineering Specifications, and Regulatory requirements/guidance (internal and external)
  • Be responsible for overall design delivery for capital project(s)
  • Coordinate all design for the Project Manager during all design phases and deliver conceptual/basic design reviews
  • Direct development of design requirements
  • Assist in development and maintenance of design schedule to meet project needs
  • Participate in selection of A/E firms
  • Coordinate with A/E firms to develop earned value progress systems (monitor work vs. invoices)
  • Expedite design decisions and coordinate information flow between design team and system owners
  • Ensure design meets approved intent via interactions with design firm, specialists, engineering tech center, and end user/customer
  • Be responsible for design activities, governance, and resolving design-related problems
  • Examine inefficiencies and develop strategies to meet/improve design hours plan
  • Assist in developing SOPs, project delivery work instructions, and best practices related to design/verification; keep current with industry practices
  • Review and approve key design project personnel (internal/external) with Project Manager
  • Work with Engineering Tech Center and key project team resources to address/resolve design issues
  • Ensure replication during design when applicable
  • Support Project Manager in value engineering to maximize opportunities
  • Review design-related invoices prior to approval and participate in KPI reviews/assessments
  • Participate in selection of verification professional services
  • Accountable for developing Project Verification Plan, Traceability Matrix, and risk assessments (not necessarily lead execution)
  • Coordinate verification for Project Manager during verification phase
  • Accountable for discrepancy tracking and management in Verification
